Photosynthetic water oxidation: a simplex-scheme of its partial reactions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Photosynthesis of green plants, algae and cyanobacteria is powered by sunlight. It uses water as ultimate donor of electrons for the reduction of CO2 to yield carbohydrates. Photosystem II (PS II), a water^ plastoquinone oxidoreductase, is the key enzyme of oxygenic photosynthesis. It is an integral protein of the thylakoid membrane. PS II is functionally bipartite, its photosynthetic reaction centre (RC II) which mediates the primary charge separation is linked to the oxygen evolving complex (OEC) [1,2] which reacts with bound water (see Fig. 1). The net reaction of water oxidation: 2H2O34e ! O2 4H 1

Simplex design method in simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of silicate and phosphate in boiler water of power plant and sewage sample by partial least squares
Partial least squares modeling as a powerful multivariate statistical tool was applied tothe simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of silicate and phosphate in aqueoussolutions. The concentration range for silicate and phosphate were 0.02-0.6 and 0.4-3 μg ml-1,respectively. The experimental calibration set was composed with 30 sample solutions using amixture design for two component mix...
متن کاملUsing small molecule complexes to elucidate features of photosynthetic water oxidation.
The molecular oxygen produced in photosynthesis is generated via water oxidation at a manganese-calcium cluster called the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). While studies in biophysics, biochemistry, and structural and molecular biology are well known to provide deeper insight into the structure and workings of this system, it is often less appreciated that biomimetic modelling provides the founda...
متن کاملPhotosynthetic water oxidation at elevated dioxygen partial pressure monitored by time-resolved X-ray absorption measurements.
The atmospheric dioxygen (O(2)) is produced at a tetramanganese complex bound to the proteins of photosystem II (PSII). To investigate product inhibition at elevated oxygen partial pressure (pO(2) ranging from 0.2 to 16 bar), we monitored specifically the redox reactions of the Mn complex in its catalytic S-state cycle by rapid-scan and time-resolved X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XAN...
متن کاملInteractions of catalytic cofactors for photosynthetic phosphorylation with Hill reaction oxidants.
Oxidation-reduction reactions in chloroplasts were first 01 served when Hill (1) discovered photolysis by isolated chloro plasts. In the Hill reaction electron transport proceeds from water to the artificial oxidant which can be any one of a number of compounds (24). A cyclic series of oxidation-reduction reactions is postulated as the basis for photosynthetic phosphorylation by spinach chlorop...
متن کاملRole of water in the partial oxidation of propane to acrylic acid over Mo1V0.3Te0.23Nb0.12Ox catalyst
Effects of water on the catalytic performances of MoVTeNbO catalyst in the oxidation of propane to acrylic acid have been investigated at different reaction temperatures and different steam contents. Obtained results show that both catalytic performances and catalyst structure are very sensitive to the presence of water vapor in the reaction feed. Presence of water induces some structural modif...
